I also recommend Bombshell on PBS for a retrospective look at how the US government covered up the long term impacts of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are a few segments that talk about the censorship of Hershey’s article, as well as the coverage by Japanese and Japanese American journalists.

This article is a detailed and harrowing account of an atomic bomb being detonated in Hiroshima. The article is from The New Yorker and was published ~80 years ago, just 1 year after the events. I read it first about a decade ago and if you havent read it, its worth sitting with for a while!
